Much like the recent storm swept through the northwest the night before, Manchester City swept Manchester United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a statement 3-0 win for Andrée Jeglertz’s side owing to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their title credentials as they consolidated their standing at the WSL pinnacle.

Successive Defeats for United

This scoreline represented successive WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since May 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the league leaders with their title hopes in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' capability to juggle domestic and European football with a small squad has been a frequently analyzed topic since they secured entry to the UCL. Reviewing the schedule, it always appeared this was the matchday that would truly test this fortitude. Unfortunately for the opposition, they looked tired from start to finish, the landmark win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.

Tactical Shifts
