Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
